Shop Small at Christmas

There is a lot of pressure during the festive period, to keep up with the Jones' but in reality, with the price rises, this time of year can be especially hard for many families. Therefore, we should try to bring back the "it's the thought that counts" mentality we once had!

Unfortunately, with the advances of social media showing an unrealistic reality of how life really is, we are becoming hostage to the interpretation of how we should be living, based on false views. Our traditional old-school approach to Christmas has been replaced with the more materialistic, gift-giving of today's society.

By shopping small, we are able to give heart-felt gifts, putting more weight on the thought, rather than the cost of the gift.

The main benefits of buying from small businesses are:

  • Supporting your local town - by buying from local, small business owners, money is kept within the local town/area and this helps to support local families.
  • Unique products - small businesses often sell one-of-a-kind pieces, making them more special for gift-giving. They are often able to offer personalised or hand-crafted items you wouldn't find in your larger, chain shops.
  • A personal experience - shopping small allows you to connect and interact directly with the business owners and employees. They are more likely to be passionate about their products and this will allow for a better customer experience.
  • Creating local jobs - shopping small, generates more business and profits, allowing for small business owners to hire staff. This not only boosts local economy, but keeps money circulating within the local area.
  • Sustainability - by shopping local you cut out the middle-men. Shopping in your own town and country, allows you to not only get your products in a more timely manner, but also saves on the resources used to send them across the globe; meaning you are helping the environment at the same time.

As a collective, we should lead by example. By shopping small and encouraging our friends and family to do so too, we play our part in helping to support the local economy and helping our local community to thrive in this climate.
